School Profile

School Overview

The American International School of Kuwait (AISK) is a private, international school in Kuwait serving students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. AISK is governed by a Board of Owners that operates similarly to an American school board. Students are at the center of teaching and learning, and their academic, social, and emotional growth is viewed as essential to the success of the entire AISK community.

International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes

AISK is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School, offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). These IB programmes provide a coherent, inquiry-based educational framework that supports academic excellence, international-mindedness, and global citizenship.

School Structure and Leadership

The academic program at the American International School of Kuwait (AISK) is organized into four clearly defined divisions, supporting student development from early childhood through graduation:

  • Early Childhood (KG1–KG2)

  • Elementary School (Grades 1–4)

  • Middle School (Grades 5–8)

  • High School (Grades 9–12)

The business side of the organization includes finances, admissions, and human resources. The Superintendent, the Board of Owners, and the Business Manager work closely together to ensure that the needs of the student are best being met within both sides of the organization. Each division is supported by dedicated leadership and collaborative teaching teams that work both within and across divisions to ensure continuity, alignment, and a cohesive IB Continuum education. This structure allows AISK to provide appropriate learning experiences while maintaining high academic standards and a strong focus on student well-being.

Accreditation

AISK is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) and was reaccredited in 2013, with reaffirmation in May 2017. As an IB Continuum School, all three IB Programmes were reauthorized in Spring 2017, reflecting the school’s commitment to internationally recognized educational standards.

Student Community

AISK serves a diverse international student population of over 2,100 students. English is the language of instruction, with approximately 60 percent Kuwaiti students, 25 percent Arabic first-language speakers from across the Middle East, and 15 percent international students from regions including Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

Curriculum, Culture, and Student Life

In accordance with Ministry of Education (MOE) requirements in Kuwait, students study Arabic through Grade 9, and Muslim students study Islamic Studies throughout their education. AISK promotes balance and holistic development through athletics and activities via NESAC and KASAC, as well as community events such as International Day, Arabic Culture Day, Sports Day, and Fine Arts and Math Nights.

Faculty and Professional Learning

AISK employs qualified and experienced educators with North American-equivalent degrees and appropriate certification. Ongoing professional development, instructional coaching, and collaboration are integral to the school culture and support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

Educational Technology

Teachers actively engage in curriculum development and technology integration to enhance student learning. AISK uses Rediker for student information management and communication, Rubicon Atlas for curriculum mapping and planning, Microsoft 365 for collaboration and productivity, and digital tools such as Seesaw and SurveyMonkey to strengthen student engagement and feedback.
